Rose was glad to be back at Hogwarts, being at home with her stepmother was a nightmare. For even though she now had her own room since her older stepsisters moved out, she still had to see and deal with her stepmother on a daily basis all summer long. Not only that, but Teaser wasn’t allowed to be kept in the house so had the spend the entire summer outside with the stray cats that hung around their house. Besides that and having to always lock her bedroom door to do her summer homework and practice her magic, Rose resented the fact that she couldn’t go flying every night once everyone was asleep. Living in the city with all the lights meant that she would’ve easily been spotted and the wizarding world could’ve been exposed if she had. Flying was perhaps Rose’s favorite thing about being a witch, and the only witch in the entire family, as none of her siblings ever got a letter from Hogwarts.
Thinking about how she was the only witch in a house of twelve people, including her grandmother that she was named after, Rose smiled. It wasn’t like she gloated about being a witch, but it was nice to know that there was something that set her apart from the rest of the family. Smiling softly as she sat up in the air on her broom, sitting sidesaddle on it so her legs dangled over one side of it, she looked down at the green grass of the Quidditch Pitch below her. Yes, Rose was doing some casual flying, wanting to free her mind and relax. Homework was definitely getting harder this year, and the teachers were giving them more homework that before. Not only that, but with Dolores Umbridge in the school, it was like all the fun was being sucked out of being a student. From the very moment she’d seen Umbridge at the Opening Feast, she hadn’t liked her. The woman’s simpering tone and patronizing look had really irked her and put her on her guard. The reason for that was because Rose had a very rich, snobby, older cousin just like that named Irene. She despised Irene, and therefore took an immediate dislike to Umbridge the same way. Only problem was, Umbridge was in a position to make everyone’s lives at Hogwarts miserable.
Sighing, she blinked as she looked down at the pitch below her. If this were a game or practice, she’d be sitting astride her broom with one leg on each side. Though since she was just flying for fun and to clear her head, she was allowing herself to sit sidesaddle. Sitting sidesaddle also helped her to work on her balance for when she was flying. Not only that, but flying sidesaddle, like sitting on a chair, was more comfortable than sitting with a hard stick of wood between your legs longer than was necessary. Dark Brown hair streaming out behind her, blue eyes sparkling, Rose began giggling as she swooped down into a nose dive, pulling her broomstick up a split second before she would hit the ground and began to rise, elegantly, back into the air again.
The outfit she was wearing as she flew around above the pitch wasn’t perhaps suitable for flying, as it was basically her school uniform worn with stockings instead of socks, she’d removed her tie, and left her robe and cloak back in the castle. But she felt beautiful in the outfit she wore, and it always allowed her to enjoy the breeze, which she appreciated.
